Do the TWIST!

Pretzel twisting is a huge passion of ours, and it’s been exciting to see all the school groups, birthday parties, parents with kids, and also grown-ups coming in to our Café TWIST to “do the twist.”

Kids of ALL ages (3-99) love the satisfaction of playing with the dough, and twisting their own treats. The experience brings back the magic of where it all started for the pretzel….over 1400 years ago when an Italian monk invented the pretzel as a gift for children after prayer.

We’ve been doing some fun special twists, like a rainbow twist with painting of rainbow colors and fun nut-free toppings, and we also have pizza twists and s’more twists.

Pretzel twisting birthday parties at the café have been a huge hit with the kids! You can take over the whole café and enjoy a private party, with goody bags, pretzel twisting, lunch or snack, and cupcakes. We make it easy for parents, and fun for kids.

Teachers are bringing their classes, and pretzel twisting is fun for scouts, community organizations, team building and more. If you are looking for something different to do for your holiday party, we also offer Travelling Twisting Parties!

And if you’re not in the Chicago area, we’re working on a pretzel twisting party kit! I’d love to hear your thoughts and ideas on the kit. We’re thinking about making it for 15 kids, complete with aprons, hats, coloring books and more. Let me know what you think!

Happy twisting!

Small Business and Social Media

Enjoying a Twist Your Own Pretzel experience at Cafe Twist!

At Kim & Scott’s we’ve seen first-hand how social media has connected our community of pretzel fans to our company. Now we’re sharing our insights with other businesses.

On Tuesday, Sept. 27 from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. at Cafe Twist, 2218 N. Lincoln Ave. the Women’s Business Development Center of Chicago and Kim & Scott’s will host the first of three-part series on social media and what it can do for small businesses.

When you connect with the people who love your company, there’s no limit to the results you can achieve. Here’s a few random examples of the fun, inspirational, and resourceful things we’ve learned about our fans:

Soft pretzels were at the top of Jordan’s “last meal” list when she found out she had to go gluten-free. But when she found our gluten free pretzels she literally started to cry.

Our fans are very willing to help us bring our products to their local stores.

Michelle wants us to make a coconut, pineapple & almond pretzel.

Our fans really know how to celebrate International Talk Like a Pirate Day.

We learned that Amanda has dreams about pretzels and  Chinese food.

Our gluten free pretzel provided a priceless moment for Monica’s celiac diagnosed son.

We’d like to invite you all to attend our seminar. Please RSVP to Julie@kimandscotts.com The cost is $30 with a reservation or $35 at the door. The event will include appetizers, networking and social media experts who will share tips and client success stories.

We hope to see you there!

Do the Pretzel Twist!

Chicago Park District kids participate in a Twist-n-Top

These days isn’t everyone trying to come up with something new, different and fresh? It’s always fun to be the first on the block and that’s why we want to tell you about our Twist-n-Top parties. Kim & Scott’s is known for its stuffed soft pretzels that are found in the frozen aisle of the grocery store. But now we can bring that twisted fun to your house, school or even business (a delicious team building exercise).

Grab a group of kids or friends and allow us to teach them how to twist pretzel dough into the iconic pretzel shape. Our pretzel professor brings toppings like all-natural chocolate chips, marshmallows, cinnamon sugar and food coloring and guests personalize their pretzels. We can bake ‘em at your space and about 20 minutes later, everyone is enjoying their fresh baked creation.

And if you’re looking to host something elsewhere, reserve some space at Kim & Scott’s Café Twist where we can twist the day away!

Let’s not forget about our pretzel carts. We can stop by your office for a happy hour. Actually any hour would be happy if we stopped by!

For more information on Twist-n-Top parties or our pretzel cart, give us a call at 1-800-57-TWIST.

ThankFULL times!

With predicted snowfall happening all around us, frigid temperatures approaching, and the smell of our delicious baked gourmet pretzels filling the office, we know this can only mean one thing: Thanksgiving is almost here! While we know we are not the first ones to obsess over this holiday, as a company that focuses solely on gourmet food, we think our obsession is within pretty good reason. What holiday could be better than one entirely dedicated to food? Our thoughts exactly…

Thanksgiving brings so much to the table, what with all the food, entertainment, sports, and shopping to go around!  But as most of our pretzel fans know, giving back through our pretzels with a purpose is always our top priority, especially around the holidays!

Tomorrow, our Kim and Scott’s team will head to the 1st Annual North Shore Turkey Run, a 5k taking place in Winnetka, IL on the beautiful trails of the Skokie Lagoons forest preserve. Part of tomorrow’s race will be dedicated to a canned food drive where participants and volunteers are encouraged to bring canned goods to support the charity, WINGS, an organization dedicated to helping abused homeless women and children. Our team will be donating our delicious pretzel rods to all the participating runners, and our 4-pack stuffed pizza pretzels to tomorrow’s division winners. If you are in the area, we always love to see the support of fellow pretzel fans! For more information on this race, you can visit the North Shore Turkey Run web site here.

As this gloomy Wednesday comes to an end, we hope everyone has a very safe and wonderful Thanksgiving holiday tomorrow. Everyone here at Kim and Scott’s feels so thankful to get the opportunity to share our pretzel blog with you each week, and we want to make sure all of you know how appreciative we are. We really hope you enjoy all the food, entertainment and opportunities to spread the pretzel love! Talk with you soon pretzel fans!

Laughter, Smiles, TWISTED Memories!

What a fun filled afternoon!

On August 25, 2009 Galaxy Tours and Travel brought fifty two seniors to Kim and Scott’s Twisting Cafe located in the Kohl’s Children Museum to twist and decorate their own pretzels as the final stop on their Mystery Tour.  These delightful folks had no idea where they’d be traveling or what they would get to see and do the entire day.  We were thrilled that their final stop was with us!

Our Pretzel Professor shared the history of the pretzel’s origin and walked them through the twisting process. Everyone got their own strip of dough to twist into that familiar pretzel shape or for the more creative in the group, any shape they pleased. Next came the decorating and all our pretzel artists were provided with red, blue, green and yellow food color paints, and what delicious hand-made pretzel would be complete without toppings? Marshmallows, chocolate chips, and cinnamon sugar were all artfully applied to each pretzel creation until they were pretzel perfection. Then the pretzel creations were gathered up for baking at our cafe kitchen.

The group then had the opportunity to explore the museum and the newly renovated Habitat Park while their pretzels baked, and everyone got to take home their own warm pretzel. It was such fun being in a room full of laughter, smiles, and wonderful memories (and pretzels) being created. We even got the bus driver to jump in and make his own pretzel too!
