Food Safety Takes A Step in the Right Direction!

Today is a pretty important day in the world of food safety, pretzel fans! One of the biggest sweeping changes for the food industry in the last 200 years is starting to take place today, and as a manufacturer for high-quality snacks, we couldn’t think of a better blog topic!

Today, our government is set to sign a $1.4 billion overhaul of the food safety system, giving Washington new power to increase inspections at food processing facilities and forcing companies to recall tainted products.

This new cause for action by Congress came in response to several serious outbreaks of E. coli and salmonella poisoning in peanuts, eggs and produce in the past few years. Once passed, this law will bring food safety into the 21st century and will be the first major overhaul of the U.S. food safety system since the 1930s! This new way of thinking will require larger farms and food manufacturers to prepare detailed food safety plans and tell the FDA how they are striving to keep their food safe at different stages of production.

As a food manufacturer and strong believer in high-quality ingredients, all of us here at Kim and Scott’s are eager to see how this large change will affect not only the business around us but the food as well! We welcome the government’s goal to have the safest products for your friends and family on the supermarket shelves, and we are really happy to see a bill that follows so much of what we believe in as a company mantra. Hopefully this bill lays the foundation for higher standards in food production.

We are very excited to watch as this new bill progresses. It is great to see our government focus on issues we hold so close to our business and our hearts!

Calling ALL Pretzel Fans!

Happy post-holiday season, pretzel fans! We hope everyone had a very joyous and safe holiday break. This year has been a whirlwind for us, and we are very excited for what’s in store for 2011, starting with a new bite-sized product we can’t wait to reveal!

We must say we’ve twisted up a pretty busy schedule for the New Year. Our Gluten-Free Bavarian Pretzel will be launching in select stores in the next few weeks, and our Café just wrapped up its first ever Groupon deal with wonderful success! But what matters most to all of us here at Kim and Scott’s continues to remain the same, and that is creating tasty gourmet soft pretzel snacks for all of our fans to enjoy!

Our team has a new delicious treat in the works that we hope our pretzel fans will love. By combining our popular nutritious and flavorful ingredients with an unforgettable twist on the poppable snack, we are really looking forward to our fan’s feedback!

As our mystery product rolls through development, it dawned on us….why should we make our fans wait until the product has already launched for initial feedback? It is our goal to make sure our products are shaped in a way that agrees with our pretzel fans from start to finish.

With that said, we are calling ALL pretzel fans. We need your help!! From the name on the box to the taste of our mystery miniatures, we want to make sure this new product gets the pretzel lover stamp of approval!

Keep a close eye on our facebook page, twisted fans! We will be posting our top name choices for all of you to vote on very shortly, and recruiting our most dedicated fans to participate on our taste panel. Who knows, there may be a few delicious prizes along the way, too 🙂 Stay tuned!

Twist-or-Treat!

As October leaves us, we couldn’t think of a better send-off than with a fun-filled Halloween weekend. And of course, it wouldn’t be a Kim and Scott’s Halloween without a little twist! Now, we know most houses pass out candy and door prizes or even the dreaded #2 pencil, but at the Kim and Scott household, it only makes sense that Halloween goers are surprised with a different kind of treat. A more twisted treat, if you will. Any guesses, pretzel fans?

How DID you guess? Of course, our Halloween giveaways this year were our pride and joy! We had a blast passing out Kim and Scott’s gourmet pretzels hot out of the oven to all the trick-or-treaters this year, and with October being quite a chilly month for Chicagoans, we couldn’t think of a better treat for not only kids of all ages, but for parents too!

We had a great weekend passing out our pretzels and seeing all of the fun costumes this year, and even though we didn’t see any pretzels walking around, we were glad to provide a warm and tasty snack for the neighborhood!

As always, we hope everyone had a safe and wonderful Halloween and we can’t wait until next year to see what fun and crazy ideas we can twist up next!
