Grains, Whole Grains, Twisted Whole Grains

Did you know that September is National Whole Grain Month? Kim & Scott’s Gourmet Pretzels are a whole grain product. We have children and we know how important it is to feed yourselves and your children the best available foods.

The Whole Grains Council defined whole grains as:

Whole grains or foods made from them contain all the essential parts and naturally-occurring nutrients of the entire grain seed. If the grain has been processed (e.g., cracked, crushed, rolled, extruded, and/or cooked), the food product should deliver approximately the same rich balance of nutrients that are found in the original grain seed.

This means that the bran, germ and the endosperm must be present to obtain whole grain status. Some of the best known whole grains include Amaranth, Barley, Buckwheat, Corn, Millet, Oats, Quinoa, Rice, Rye, Sorghum, Teff, Triticale, Wheat and Wild Rice. Many of these whole grains are gluten free.
