Great Halloween Events & Spooky Pretzel Twisting

Here at Kim & Scott’s Gourmet Pretzels and at our Twisting Cafe, we are all really getting into the Halloween spirit!  We had two great events this past weekend.  One was a safety event at the Glen Town Center.  We loved the idea behind this event, as we feel it’s really important to teach children how to have a safe Halloween and provide them with some fun and empowering activities.  There was finger printing by the Glenview Police, cookie decorating, arts & crafts, and of course PRETZEL TWISTING!  We twisted pretzels in the shape of jackolanterns, and ued some fun halloween colors and toppings to decorate.  The kids were having so much fun that even the adults joined in and made their own!

We also participated in the Chicago Botanic Gardens Hallowfest, a weekend long event for families.  There were also a ton of creative activities at this event.  While we did not have pretzel twisting at this event, as I think they wanted to decorate real pumpkins, we provided stuffed gourmet pretzels for all guests.  Kids and adults loved our twists, and we loved when they shared their enthusiasm!

Dare To Be Decadent

Only if today were a REAL holiday! Today is National Chocolate Day. Here at Kim & Scott’s Gourmet Pretzels we decided to really get into the “holiday” spirit and eat chocolate! Some of us split a warm Chocolate Crumb pretzel with frozen yogurt on top.  Some people had some of our Gourmet Dipped chocolate covered pretzel rods that are brand new.  To make it easy for you to be decadent, we’ve taken 25% off of our Sweet Sampler, that features Chocolate Crumb.  We’re actually going to leave this up all day Wednesday, as well.  So, consider yourself in the know!

We’d love for you to share any great chocolate lover’s recipes with us.  Many of us and our blog readers are chefs, bakers, and food lovers.

Now, go eat some chocolate and let the world know that you are in the holiday spirit!

Happy Birthday, Dear Twisting Cafe!

Birthday Letterhead

We are so excited about our Kim & Scott’s Twisting Cafe’s 3rd Birthday today.  It was a dream of ours to create a magical place with a twist that inspires kids of all ages.  For those of you who have not had the pleasure of visiting us, we are located in the Kohl Children’s Museum of Greater Chicagoland.

Given that there are not a lot of all-natural and healthier options out there, it was important to us to develop a place that caters to kids and families with a healthy, all-natural menu, and alternative options for those dealing with food allergies.

And not only do we want to help provide a way to keep the body healthy, we believe in keeping children’s minds healthy with interactive hands-on experiences.  Children learn through experience and feel empowered by activity and accomplishment.  We offer a Twist ‘N Top activity, during which children learn about the history of the pretzel, while twisting and decorating their very own!  Children LOVE this activity. Actually, we know many adults that are interested in learning how to twist dough into the shape of a pretzel!  It’s fun and empowering for all.

We’ll be placing a candle on our Twisted Pretzel Sundaes today so that children can make their very own special wish for the year.  We’ll be wishing for more Twisting Cafes for children around the country.

You can find out more about our Twisting Cafe on our website www.kimandscotts.com.  We hope to add a great section for kids in the not-so-distant future.  Currently we have a coloring book in the “Kids’ Land of Twist.”  We will soon be updating it with a fun activity booklet.  If you have children, check it out!

We’d also love to know more about what parents are doing to find healthier meal options for their children. We’d love to hear from you.

Finally, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, KIM & SCOTT’S TWISTING CAFE!  We are so proud and energized!

The Glen Town Center is Hosting a Halloween Safety Event Featuring Kath & Kim’s Gourmet Pretzels

We were thrilled to see our participation in this upcoming Halloween Safety Event featured on CLTV’s website, until we learned that they changed our name.  No, the above picture is not a picture of Kim & Scott. We are now Kath & Kim’s Gourmet Pretzels! Okay, this is actually hilarious, and we are getting some good chuckles out of this. We’re actually getting more laughs from this little error than from the current show, but we are hoping that it starts to find its way, as the actors are nothing short of brilliant. This show is an American adaptation of the Australian hit comedy series, much like “The Office” is based off the British series.  The humor comes from a dysfunctional relationship among iconoclastic characters, ever so slightly echoing Wes Anderson’s dysfunctional characters (many of us are big fans of his movies).  So we’ll give the show some time to grow, and hopefully CLTV will give some consideration to correcting their error. But thanks for the laughs, CLTV! We’ve included the original article below.  And since posting this blog, CLTV has remedied their mistake.

CLTV:

The Glen Town Center in Glenview is hosting a Halloween Safety Event for children and families on October 25th from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. prior to organized Trick-or-Treating at The Glen on Friday, October 31. The event is designed to be fun, yet provide safe, educational tips and information for this time of year, when it gets darker earlier and kids need to be aware of their surroundings as they venture outside for trick or treating activities.

The event will offer:

Children can be fingerprinted by the Glenview Police department on a card that parents take with them for their own personal records.

Children and parents can learn about safe eating habits and safe candy identification tips from the Glenbrook Hospital and Glenview Police Department.

Halloween craft activities provided by The Kohl Children’s Museum.

Pretzel decorating provided by Kath & Kim’s Gourmet Pretzels and cookie decorating provided by Cookies by Design.

Basic safety tips from ATA Black Belt Academy and a free DVD led by Sergeant Safety to take home.

Outdoor fun activities led by Game On! Sports Camp 4 Girls in Navy Park.

Creativity with a Twist

While developing some pretzels to feature on NBC 5 News, discussing a Halloween Safety event that our Kim & Scott’s Twisting Cafe is participating in, we twisted or way into a great idea for Halloween parties.  The spooky decorated pretzel above was made with pretzel dough, food coloring, and marshmallows (for the teeth).

Kim & Scott’s will be doing spooky Twist ‘N Tops at the Glentown Center Safety event on October 25th.  If any of you are making your own pretzels, let us know and we can share how to twist this cute pretzel jack-o-lantern. For those of you in the Chicagoland area, we’d be happy to share more about this great event. Just add a comment here, if you’d like more information.  We fell in love with this cute little guy, as well as the educational value of this event.  We can’t wait to share the idea with some children!

You can view some of our other twisted and spooky pretzels by clicking on our Flickr link below on the right navigation panel.

Join Us & Get Twisted Pink

Join Us In Getting Twisted Pink!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and according to the American Cancer Society, one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. We’ll be adding our own twist for the cause this month, as this topic is very important to us.

First, we had amazing response last year to our special Pink Ribbon Pretzel! Our Pink Ribbon Pretzel is a stuffed Cinnamon Roll Pretzel, hand-twisted in the shape of the breast cancer awareness ribbon, and topped with pink white chocolate drizzle. It’s all-natural and truly has the center of the cinnamon roll in every bite.  They also have a special special Pink Ribbon label, which also received many great responses, as many women sent a dozen to some of their friends and family touched by breast cancer. It really made a nice gift.

Kim & Scott’s ”Twist For The Cure” Delicious Dozen Pack

We will also be giving the gift of support, helping organizations that provide information, research, resources and emotional support to those touched by Breast Cancer. 5% of all online sales this month will be donated to organizations that support the cause and the cure. We’ll also be giving away our special pink products at many awareness events this month.

Some of the great organizations that Kim & Scott’s Gourmet Pretzels supports are listed below, but we would especially like for you to take a notice of a revolutionary new opportunity for ALL women to partner with research scientists to move beyond a cure. Please join the Army of Women that will help eliminate breast cancer by identifying what causes this disease and stopping it before it starts. Learn more at www.armyofwomen.org!

For our Chicagoans and visitors, our Pink Ribbon Pretzel and a special Twisted Pink Double Dipped dark chocolate covered pretzel rod will also be featured at Kim & Scott’s Pretzel Bakery & Twisting Café, located at Kohl Children’s Museum of Greater Chicago. And we’ll be twisting for the cure with our Twist ‘N Top™ activity. Our Twist ‘N Top lets children twist, decorate and paint their very own pretzel! Come TWIST for the cure with us!

We hope you will join us in the cause during this very important month. For additional information and support, please visit any of the wonderful sites listed below that help to make a difference in the world of Breast Cancer. We’d also love to hear from you about any breast cancer organizations that you find inspiring!
